J-KISS Mixer

Ashar Farhan (VU2ESE), developer of the very popular BITX low-cost transceiver, has been working on a new all-band design called the MINIMA”. This new rig uses a variant of Chris Trask’s KISS mixer employing JFETS as the switching elements instead of bus switches. I call it the J-KISS. This design has the advantage of easier to obtain parts for some hams in the international community, but it also has some performance tradeoffs.

I built one of these ans t does work, but there are a number of important part qualification procedures in order to obtain best performance. I’ll be writing about my experience with the J-KISS here. Stay tuned…
